Technical reference for the ZebraByteDevice Agent line, supported extension points, integration with the custom agentAPIand security review principles applied to the terminal point positioning software.

The ZebraByte Device Agent is part of the ZebraByteCloud product and is not offered as a ZebraByte project. this page is preserved because the previous agent line contains useful deployment, portability and security-review contexts for teams that integrate endpoint posture data.

The previous implementation of the agent lived in the top platform repository and separated the service/installation layer from the device-position client logic:

Historical path Role
cmd/probo-agent CLI, installers and service integration
pkg/deviceagent Client recording, heartbeats and logic posture-check

This separation remains useful when we review the security model: the installer/service behavior and posture reporting protocol have different limits of privileges and threats.

For ZebraByteCloud, integrations should use supported product interfaces instead of modifying or redistributing the platform’s source code.

Good extension scenarios include:

  • connecting additional endpoint or asset-management systems;
  • mapping posture information from an existing security stack in ZebraByte workflows;
  • use of the Device Agent for a collector or supported custom integration;
  • automation of construction around workflows of registration, inventory, evidence and repair;
  • request ZebraByte support for additional operating systems or architectures.

If the standard ZebraByteDevice Agent does not cover the environment you need, use Device Agent API or contact ZebraByteto discuss a supported integration path.

A review should cover:

  • privilege boundaries and least privilege;
  • whether the agent remains a postural reporter rather than a remote control software;
  • enrollment and authentication flows;
  • dependency and supply-chain exposure;
  • update and package integrity;
  • data minimisation and transportation safety;
  • test coverage across supported platforms.

The inherited end-to-end test matrix covered:

  • FreeBSD;
  • Linux;
  • Windows on AMD64;
  • macOS on Apple silicon.

Historical documentation has also identified Windows on ARM as a future coverage area. Current production support should be confirmed against the version of the ZebraByteDevice Agent made available through ZebraByteCloud, rather than being deducted exclusively from this line note.
