Geolocation and Regulations

Learn how the platform detects a visitor’s country and automatically applies the appropriate banner privacy policy, presentation and consent mode.

The platform automatically detects the country of each visitor from its IP address and applies the correct privacy regulation. presentation (opt-in, opt-out or notification), button settings, start/reopen status and copying all adapt to the visitor’s location without any manual configuration.

Each time the JavaScript SDK collects the banner configuration, it resolves the visitor’s location:

  1. The visitor’s IP address is extracted from the application.
  2. The IP is searched against a geolocation database to determine the country.
  3. The country is mapped to an applicable privacy regulation (e.g., GDPR for France, CCPA for the United States).
  4. Regulamentul stabileşte layout (presentation, initial_state, reopen_state, buttons, settings-link style) and consent mode. Text variants are selected to match.

This happens transparently with each configuration application. You do not need to install any additional libraries or submit location data from the client.

If geolocation can't solve a country (for example, the IP can't be searched), the platform returns to GDPR — the strictest opt-in model.

The SDK presents three presentations (see layout.presentation in JavaScript SDK):

Presentation Behavior Typical reopen target
OPT_IN Non-essential cookies are blocked until the visitor gives his/her consent. Preference panel
OPT_OUT Non-essential cookies are active by default. Compact recognition + opt-out banner. CCPA The banner starts closing and reopens Privacy Choices. Compact Banner (or Privacy Options for CCPA)
NOTICE Information note with one opt-out control. Records ACKNOWLEDGE (do not accept-all). Cookies follow the opt-out pattern (active by default). Notice banner

Information only refusal – implicit consent or without the cookie consent law:

Regulation Countries Notes
APPI Japan Single acknowledge / dismiss control
LFPDPPP Mexico Single acknowledge / dismiss control
None Other countries identified without cookie consent regulations Same notice presentation
  1. Country resolved Map to the rule above and apply that rule’s appearance (presentation, consent mode, re-open target, link-style settings).
  2. Country unresolved — Fall back to GDPR (strict opt-in).
  3. There is no console “default consent mode” The layout is always derived from the resolved regulation.

APIadjusts the button tags and description text to match the solved presentation. You don't need to manage separate variants of text in the code - use the translation keys specific to the console presentation (or resolveBannerText in headless embeddings).

Presentation Banner behavior
OPT_IN Accept all, reject all and customize with standard consent description
OPT_OUT Acknowledge + opt-out with opt-out-specific description. Under CCPA the first visit starts closed; the settings link opens Privacy Options
NOTICE Single rejection button with a description in notification style - records ACKNOWLEDGE

If you have custom banners translations, the system uses your opt-out text variants or specific notifications when applicable. Translations tab.

Regulatory geolocation and mapping are fully automated. not Choose a consent mode when creating a banner - only name, origin, policy URLs, expiration and languages. Everything - IP resolution, country mapping to regulation, text appearance and adaptation - is managed by the platform.
